Courses are either full year courses or semester long courses. SophieConnect Directors set the calendar dates for all courses. Breaks may not coincide with the Sacred Heart school in which the instructor teaches.
SophieConnect faculty are key to ensuring that students are successful in the on-line classroom. This commitment to student success requires faculty to work individually with struggling students by providing them one-on-one support through on-line meetings, extra feedback and collaborating with the academic support team. SophieConnect faculty are required to respond to student inquiries within 24 hours and be fully active in the online classroom five of the 7 days per week.
Course Design Summer Workshop
All new SophieConnect faculty are expected to take the Course Design Summer Workshop. This training is a blend of SophieConnect faculty expectations, best practices for teaching on-line, pedagogy, creating student-centered learning communities, and effectively using the on-line learning platform, and course design. Our three-week Course Design Summer Workshop is delivered asynchronously, in an online cohort format, using Blackboard. Some face to face meetings will be required via skype. The time commitment for new faculty varies based on previous experience using Learning Management Systems (such as Moodle, Blackboard) and/or classroom experience. The stipend to design a course is $500.
